This amazing animation was created by Dominic in Yer 6. he coded this using Scratch.
Year 1 have been learning about the earth, sun and moon. After gathering a few key facts from a video clip they participated in a 'Thinking Routine' called Give One- Get One. They walk around to find a buddy to give a fact to and get a fact from. Great for developing knowledge and communication skills.
Thinking routines support our move towards a Culture of Thinking at St Therese's.
During Library time Year 4 students have been learning to 'select and organise relevant facts'. In groups they were required to select a country and research the main landmarks, cities and land forms for that country. The students used mathematical skills to scale and sketch their country onto a large plastic tablecloth.
Their challenge was to code our robot 'Sphero' to move around their virtual country, visiting the places and landmarks identified.
The fun really started when the students discovered sphero could speak!
Back to the internet and books they went to find out what 'Sphero' might say about the places he visited. Some groups decided to research climate and use the 'change colour code' option to reflect what the temperature is like in a given area at a given time.
After studying electrcity usage in Year 2M, the class decided to email Mr Rufo to share some thoughts and ideas.
Dear Mr Rufo
2M have been learning about graphs in Maths. We looked at the electricity graphs and noticed we used too much electricity especially in February and March. We have some ideas to use less electricity so we can save money and the environment.
1. Keep the air conditioner off at lunch and recess
2. Open the windows more for fresh air and light
3. Keep blinds open to get light into the classroom
4. Write messages on paper rather than the computer
5. Use electricity for PROPER reasons
6. Ask the teachers to use the printer less
The students also created a podcast of their ideas. Listen to the podcast on our school SOUND CLOUD - LINK
