STEM education is the learning of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in an interdisciplinary or integrated approach (NSW DoE). Many schools, including St Therese's, are designing integrated units of work that are inquiry based with an emphasis on STEM skills and knowledge.

Year 5 unit sample: The balloon powered car.
Watch the video: What's going on here.
Concept wall: Your task is to create a vehicle similar to those shown in this video. You MUST use the same materials. Size of car parts is the ONLY variable that you can change.
Add your thoughts as to what are the different features that you might consider changing the size of. The features you change should increase the speed of the vehicle and the distance it can travel.
On the concept wall. In the VARIABLES section:
- PIN UP a half A4 poster showing the feature you'd change. Please include your name with your ideas. Include what makes you confident it will have the desired effect on the vehicles performance.
To help us teach you better can you please add thoughtful suggestions regarding what skills and knowledge you will require to complete successful vehicle design and testing.
- What maths skills, understandings and vocabulary will you or others need to know about
- What science skills and understandings and vocabulary will you or others need to know about will you need to know
Add these to the STEM wall in the correct spot.
