Parents & Friends Association

The P&F committee is a group of parents and school staff who have volunteered some of their time to discuss important issues that affect the school and to raise much-needed funds for St Therese’s Primary School.

The P&F is responsible for running the school canteen and organising fun, extra-curricular activities for the children who attend this school. Some examples are school discos, fun runs, Easter and Christmas raffles, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day stalls and family movie nights.

Through our fundraising efforts, the school has been able to purchase literacy program books, lay new turf and improve drainage in the playground, acquire new sporting equipment and signage for the school, in addition to funding the stage and large ceiling fan in the hall.

The St Therese’s P&F committee meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7pm in the staffroom. Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings.

Why is fundraising needed?

It is a common assumption that the Catholic Schools Office provides funding for “everything” the school requires to give the best possible education for your child. This is not entirely correct. School fees only cover the basic costs of your child’s tuition. To continue the tradition at St Therese’s of providing a superior education and to maintain its reputation as one of the best primary schools in the Newcastle area, we need to provide for more than a basic education. Fundraising is essential for St Therese’s to provide the best possible experience for your child.

How can you help?

It is not necessary to be on the committee to support the good work we do. Volunteers are always sought to assist fundraising events, in fact they are instrumental to the success of the event. A lack of volunteers means an event cannot proceed.

We understand that people are busy with fulltime work and caring for young children. The same is true for those who regularly volunteer their time and effort to make these events a success.

Who can attend P&F meetings?

Anyone with a vested interest in the school and the wellbeing of the students can attend P&F meetings and we encourage you to come along to see what it is all about. The P&F committee meets at the school on the first Tuesday of each month at 7pm, except during school holidays. Meetings are advertised in the school newsletter.

What will happen if there are no volunteers for the committee?

Without a P&F, the school will be significantly disadvantaged. Not only financially but also socially. There will be no school canteen, no school discos, and many other things that that most parents take for granted. We encourage you to attend a P&F meeting and look forward to your support. Whether it is volunteering for a P&F committee role, assisting in fundraising activities or participating in them, we appreciate your contribution.

You may contact the P&F via the school.
